Hawzah News Agency- In its statement, the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom addressed the officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan following the implementation of restrictive hijab policies by the government in Baku.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The Republic of Azerbaijan is a land with a brilliant heritage of Islamic culture and devotion to the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), and the hijab, for the Muslim women and girls of this land, is a manifestation of faith, religious identity and commitment to Islamic values.
The Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, expressing concern over the restrictions imposed on veiled girls, expects the officials of this country to respect the religious beliefs of the people, put an end to any coercion in imposing non-religious dress, and not allow any girl to be deprived of her right to education and presence in society because of her adherence to the Islamic hijab.
Undoubtedly, respect for the religious convictions of citizens is a sign of foresight and a foundation for trust and social cohesion. Religious beliefs cannot be erased from people's hearts through coercion and restriction; rather, wisdom and tolerance are a more worthy path for governing society and preserving human dignity.
The Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom therefore advises the officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan — who advocate the slogan of social freedoms — to reconsider their restrictive hijab policies, respect the religious rights of Muslims, and provide the ground for veiled girls to pursue education and live with dignity and tranquility.
It is hoped that through prudence and mutual respect, the path will be paved for preserving Islamic values, strengthening national solidarity and upholding the rights of the people.
